House #6, Kathy and Gary Garcia’s Home, 61 South Kashong Drive
The name Kashong is Seneca for “two creeks,” and the area has been inhabited by different peoples for hundreds of years. The Garcia property has been home to at least three domiciles in the last one hundred years, including one owned by a local guide well known for taking celebrities staying at Belhurst Castle on fishing trips. The Garcia’s purchased the real estate in 1999 after a fire destroyed the existing house, planned the home of their dreams, and moved into the 3,200 square foot home in 2002.
Visitors are greeted outside the front door by Chief Kashong, embodied in California redwood. There are items of interest everywhere, both outside and inside. Enjoy the skeleton, out from his closet, whose name and apparel change seasonally. The carefully planned rooms allow for flexibility; some can be easily converted into bedrooms to accommodate overnight guests. The Jacuzzied bathrooms were designed by the Garcia’s for comfort and style. Note also the shower room specifically created for Reggie, the family’s yellow Labrador.
Beyond the family and game room is a workshop and storage area where the Garcias enjoy creating multiple projects; nearby is a relaxing sauna. The deck and covered boat area are ready for summer fun.
Among the many other visual treats not to be missed: the compass mosaic in the floor and the three beautiful stained glass windows which are enhanced by sunlight and moonlight. All in all, truly gracious lakeside living.
