House #1, The White House on Washington, 98 Washington Street, Geneva

The property lots here were sold by Charles Williamson of the Pulteney Land Office in 1795 to Asa Ransom, a very early settler who later became known as the first settler of Buffalo. In 1806 Robert Troup of Albany purchased the lane and erected the early portion of the five-bay Federal style house; it then became known as the Troup House.

After later transactions it was sold in 1870 to Charles Ballon and then by Ballon to the trustees of the Presbyterian Church, who purchased it as the manse. In 1898 the church resold part of the property and, in 1931, it was purchased by William M. Fink, who conveyed it in 1958 to John P. Parrott, Sr.. John died in 1981 and the property was transferred to his wife, Grace.

Since 2008 the White House on Washington has been in the hands of its current proprietor, Matthew Parrott, grandson of John and Grace Parrott. The home and grounds have undergone extensive restoration and are now available as an historic bed and breakfast, as well as for business meetings, seminars, luncheons, private parties and corporate retreats. The property and its kitchens are professionally managed.
